Iris is a thin, annular structure in the eye, responsible for controlling the diameter and size of the pupil and thus the amount of light reaching the retina. Eye color is defined by that of the iris. In optical terms, the pupil is the eye’s aperture, while the iris is the diaphragm. The iris has a fine texture, which is determined randomly during embryonic gestation, and it will not change in the lifetime. This is the reason why iris’ features can be used for personal identification.

Iris recognition is an automated method of biometric identification that uses mathematical pattern-recognition techniques on video images of one or both of the irises of an individual’s eyes, whose complex patterns are unique, stable, and can be seen from some distance.

The reliability of iris recognition is of extreme reliability. Everyone has unique iris on each eye. The iris image become stable 6-18 months after the baby is born. It will not change with aging, impacts from environment or diseases, unless some eye surgery operations. Iris image’s uniqueness, stablity, unalterableness, are the basis of using it for identification purpose. Iris recognition is considered to be one of the most reliable biometric technologies today in the world.

The wavelength of near infrared lighting from the recognition device is at 700-900nm. It’s brightness is similar to the nature daylight. According to the related caculation, the accumulated radiation of 100 thousand times of recognition, is less then that of 1 minute of telephone call. So, in the normal using conditions, the iris recognition technology will not do harm to the eyes at all.

Wearing glasses will not affect the accuracy of iris recognition. And Wearing sun-glasses will not afftect the accuracy of Pixsur’s devices, either.

The normal contact lens has no affection on the recognition at all. But if the user is wearing the colored contact lens with complicated pattens, the device is comparing the iris pattern overlayed with the lens pattern, there might be some affections on the recognition result. Pixsur’s unique approved algorithm of colored contact lens detection, achieves 95% high accuracy.

The liveness detection technology is applied on Pixsur’s device. The photo will not be recognized.

According to the different application or requirement, Pixsur provides the iris recognition devices of different workable distance. There are several options, 20-40cm, 40-60cm, 60-100cm, and above 100cm.
